'Your First KISS' might have some marketing possibilities. But since
we're not marketers, maybe not.

I'm not sure that the target audience will know what Desktop Linux
means. (I wanted to come, but I have a laptop.) How about "Getting
Started With Linux"?

The web site should have some words about why you want to get started
with Linux. First and foremost should be the fact that non-free
software is destroying the world. Ok, no. I'm just kidding--wrong
audience. Top for me is easy access to people who can help you when you
have a problem. And low cost (easy to try out several apps and pick the
best; no need to buy the next version and try to upgrade; etc.)

Hmm... Easy access to help. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a place
you could go and have someone look at your box when you were stumped on
a problem (asking questions well in email isn't a newbie forte)? Like
installfest but every week (or every day). Perhaps something like
hacking society--geeks meet here, if you need help drop in. Hard to do,
I know, but nice to dream.

But maybe if CLUE ever needs a fundraiser we could so a weekly or
monthly "fix fest". $10 and we'll fix whatever problem you have (I so
wanted to do that watching people talk to Gateway support one day). And
I wouldn't mind fixing Windows for people at something like that (which
I might regret saying...)

I just ran across the idea that Knoppix HD installs aren't so good for
standard use because you get a mish-mash of stable/testing/unstable
packages. That makes it really hard to upgrade since there's no Knoppix
repository out there nor any tested process for upgrading.

Do the Ubuntu live CDs support a HD install like Knoppix, or do they do
a normal Ubuntu install? I would hope that once you get the live CD
installed it's all standard versions and easy to upgrade from the
standard repositories.

Does the Oracle space support a KISS for newbies and networking for
those who aren't interested in the KISS? A hallway track, perhaps? I'd
frequently be more interested in catching up with you guys than a
presentation on KMail.
