Actually to have a remote mic or a podium mic for the presenter to directly speak that does not pick up the presenter might resolve this issue.  My notes mentioned similar echo issues from the "viewers", so it is a question of probably just the mic "focus" and not picking up everything else.  This is common when using a laptop with speakers and a mic built in where the laptop user speaks, the sound is piped through the system and thus the laptop speakers, the mic picks up that audio single, hence "echo" effect.  A headset with earphones resolves this typically.

Cute on the humor, yes. ;-)  

Comments from another using a web camera was that would have a different using a "higher end" vs. "lower end" at the presenter's workstation as well as perhaps an audience member doing another perspective.
