When they question why you are trying to use Linux when the "Whole World"
uses Winders, remind them that this will give them a different point of
view, a broader perspective, and the whole world doesn't use Winders.  60%
of all web servers are Apache on some *nix, with Solaris and Linux being
the main ones.  Having used both, I will tell you that much of the
knowledge transfers.  Therefore you are helping to prepare them for not
just useing a computer at home but actually having a useful skill like
being able to use the machines that run the internet.

Something along these angles show sufficiently wow them.
