I sometimes wonder if that's what all the posturing and saber-rattling (and
no action) is about: it'd be much better all around if there was a revolt
within the borders of Iraq...as long as they were successful. 

I've read (somewhere, sorry, don't have a cite) that American operatives
were calling high-ranking Iraqis on their cell phones and telling them that
if they defect now, they will be given amnesty, etc., and they can avoid
death or other consequences. Talk about psy-ops!
