Will,
I have used Linux for about 7 years. I have tried a number of Linux
distributions and recommend the following:
Mandrake Linux (http://www.mandrake.com/)
Red Hat Linux (http://www.redhat.com/)
Both feature tools that allow you to install your system concurrently with a
Windows system (I am guessing that you will want to dual-boot for a while).
In addition, if you purchase a boxed set (for about $30) at SoftPro (and
other software stores), you are entitled to 30 days installation support from
those Linux companies.
In addition, the following points should interest you:
The CLUE group will have an upcoming Installfest on February 16. During an
installfest, folks like you bring in their computers and we help them install
Linux. You may find the installfest useful for your endeavors.
In addition, our 'CLUE-Tech' email list is where folks can ask technical
questions about Linux -- (installation questions as well).
Please visit our 'CLUE Resources' page at
http://clue.denver.co.us/resources.html for links to Linux help.
Finally, feel free to attend our regular monthly meetings (next one is
tonight!) Visit our web page -- http://clue.denver.co.us/ for more
information.
Take care!
Jeff
