Very. Apple built a library (aka "Carbon" or "CarbonLib") in OS X that
is comprised of API's that existed in earlier MacOS versions. Vendors
can migrate their older products by recompiling them on OS X against
CarbonLib (plus some reworking of code--ports are rarely as easy as
simply recompiling).
So, there 2 possibilities for getting Office onto Linux:
1) Microsoft can rewrite Office to support X-windows/KDE/Gnome/whatever.
2) Apple can port CarbonLib to Linux.
Both seem Herculean tasks to me.
