[CLUE-Talk] Linux Advocacy: A Reformation

Hi Folks.

Following is a message I posted to the IT Samaritans mailing list. So I've
done it now, haven't I? ;-)

This puts me in the position of having things I'd like to do WRT Linux and
Free/Open Software, without having any infrastructure in place. The
obvious things like starting a mailing list, and maybe having a website
come to mind.

The question this brings up is whether this advocacy project could
reasonably be a part of CLUE. If not, that's fine, it's just a possibility
which has occured to me. For me, one of the advantages which comes to mind
is that CLUE has a web/mail server. Maybe it doesn't need any more
activity on it. I'm just thinking out loud.

The other big question would be whether the CLUEbies who have already
responded positively to the idea are still interested, given that it is no
longer a part of IT Samaritans.

Anyone needing a little refresher on the concept can look at
http://rockchucker.com/leap.mission.html -- I haven't edited it yet to
reflect the new status, but the concept is still the same.

Any input, suggestions, are welcome.

Later,

First off, thanks to all who attended the kickoff meeting. I appreciate
everyone's time and interest, and I'm glad to see the turnout that we had.

However, after much consideration, and even some consultation, I have
decided that it will be better to continue this effort apart from the
umbrella of IT Samaritans. There are, of course, a variety of reasons for
this, but I'm not going to post the equivalent of a "95 Theses". I'd
rather just move ahead with the things that I want to accomplish, which
haven't really changed.

I do sincerely hope that the volunteers of IT Samaritans, and their
beneficiary organizations, will still be able to benefit, and certainly,
anyone who wishes to participate will be welcome.

I have a bit of work to do before things get rolling. For the moment, if
you wish to be contacted with things such as invitations to subscribe to
the mailing list -- once I've got that set up, please reply to me
privately.

And, if the group is open to such, I'll be more than happy to post
announcements of future events to this list.
