Hi Zonker,

Have you looked at the ThinkPad A and T series?   If you get one with an
ATI video chipset (eg. most current A and T models), then chances are
that you'll have a solidly built and well supported laptop that will
work quite smoothly with Linux.  I've owned, used, and supported over a
dozen ThinkPad models (all running Linux) and have been very pleased
with IBM's mail-in support.

You can get some good deals on brand new and fully warrantied (but
end-of-model-life) ThinkPads directly from IBM at:
