Heh. I can empathize. Certain things are my pet peeves too.

But you gotta admit... adding GNU/ to the front of anything isn't the
real reason it bothers people. There's something deeper there and I
think those more tolerant (e.g. Don't care) poke your buttons just to do
it by leaving the GNU/ on there. :-)

I'm not even going to attempt a speculation as to what it might be that
really bugs people about it, though. It's so hilarious that it bothers
people it makes me giggle sitting here at the terminal reading how
violently you don't like it... 'cause it's so darn trivial.

"We" (as in all Free Software folks) have become exceedingly good at
worrying about stuff that really just doesn't matter.

Mostly to me it just appears to be yet another "controversial" topic
(controversial in quotes because everyone agrees GNU actually wrote most
of the tools we're all using... them or BSD...) for people to argue
about that takes away from the whole experience and wastes lots of time
between hacking sessions. But we all need that from time to time, I
guess. :-)

GNU/Nate... typing from my crappy NON-GNU WinXP desktop at work trying
to make light of how GNU/Funny this all is. ;-) !!!

very funny stuff... just make sure you've finished your GNU/Lunch and
it's settled before you read it!]
