I did stress for the original poster: there are NO reliability
problems with Debian based distros. My problem is hardware support,
and that's not likely to be fixed.

I agree in general. The only caveat is if you have just bought a
Gateway amd64 box <grin>. [K|X|'']ubuntu is now LTS (uggh!), and
you'll have to roll your own fixes.
