You have to remember tho that you can't compare price,
quality, reliability, and other metrics unless you're
comparing oranges to oranges and apples to... uh
Apples. :) Plus specs all by themselves aren't the
whole picture. Remember Apple's MHz myth campaign?
Clock speed isn't the only factor when you talk
performance much like megapixel count isn't the only
factor determining digital photo quality. For digital
photos, you have to factor in lens quality, software
processing, physical chip size, chip density, etc.
Similarly with computers, performance will be based on
clock speed, chip architecture, operating system,
software to be run. So yes, you can't rely simply on
specs, but at the same time you can't expect to Dell
Precision to go head-to-head against a Mac Mini or vis
versa a Mac Pro versus a low-end Dell Dimension. When
shopping for your family sedan, you wouldn't be
comparing a Toyota Camry to a Lotus Esprit no more
than you would compare it to a Smart car. Like any
purchase, you identify your needs, find products that
will meet those needs in the same class that you can
afford, and then compare all the metrics that are
important to you and find the one with the best fit.
