I have used it via both qwest adsl and comcast business cable (base
level).  It is not great.  The sound quality is about the same as
skype in terms of jaggies and lags, which is to say that if it's free
(skype) then it's worth it.  If it's going to save you significantly
over a landline (vonage might) then it might be worth it.  I would
keep a backup (e.g. cell phone) just in case.

My experience with skype is that it works reasonably well for
incoming/forwarding/skype2skype calls, but that for dialing out you
will be branded as a 1000342323232 type of number which looks weird on
caller ID so many people don't answer it.

I've also talked to people using skype from foreign countries on
SDSL256Kbps and it worked reasonably well.

So..I'd say it's a big "YMMV" field.

Also, Vonage may be out of business in a few months if this case holds:
