For my money, it's nice to have other options for running Windows binaries
that one must run. And unfortunately, they still exist, at least for me. 

And I think a lot of the draw for Linux is definitely both because it's open
source and it's a UNIX work-alike, but an open source Windows work-alike has
its draw, too...maybe even more so for the average user in the long run...
