[clue-talk] The stimulus bill

I don't regard myself as being either conservative or liberal. Or belonging
to any other ism.

We are all conservative or liberal on a spectrum, perhaps even conservative
about one topic, and liberal about another.

The fact that both terms have stopped being descriptive ways to define our
beliefs, and instead are “labels” used for attack, both shows our inability
as a country to have a reasonable discussion with anyone over politics
(note: It’s “socially unacceptable” to talk politics in daily interactions
with people to far too many people, when the politicians are the ones who
have control over the government purse-strings and spend almost ½ of
everything each individual makes in this country), and our love for stupid
labels over reasonable and rational thought, so we can feel part of a
“side”.

What you’re saying is, you’re not on anyone’s “side”, you’re out for
yourself. That only works so far as you don’t think those that will blindly
follow or who are more than willing to “join” a side can’t overpower you,
since you’re alone. They will. Numbers win.

In other words, pick a side and work to change the rhetoric of that side,
rather than make the excuse that you’re not part of either one and watch it
all fall apart due to too many people standing on the sidelines. Your vote
still counts. If all you have to realistically pick from is a Republican or
a Democrat (or throwing your vote away on another party), you still get to
choose. You’re “taking a side” whether you like it or not.

The only “Change” in Parties comes from votes

Is anyone here really happy with paying the trillions of dollars back that
are being spent on “bailouts”? Even if they’re ultimately a necessary evil,
are we looking back to ALL of the Administrations and legions of politicians
since basically right around the time the baby-boomers started holding
public office, who have been out for their own interests and not out for the
interests of the country? On BOTH sides?

So far, Obama has not proven to be as smart as his supporters thought he
was.

- He’s running around changing the rules on badly written bailout
bills his counterparts in the House and Senate in his Party wrote, trying to
do damage control. Why not just stop handing out bailouts and veto the
bill at least once to give Congress motivation to take out the pork, write
in the correct limitations, and do it right the first time? President
first, working for the country, or Party shill. His decision. Welcome to
the job.

- He appointed two people who are tax dodgers without knowing he
did so? (Really? What happened to vetting people for the jobs you’re
offering them? Seriously. Talk about unprofessional of him and his staff.
I can find out if someone has a lien with $29.95 and a web browser, couldn’t
they? $29.95 says they already knew and hoped no one would notice. I mean,
really. Get real here.)

- Obama’s holding nice $100 a plate dinners in the White House to
congratulate supporters while families he promised he would help go hungry
due to job losses, and keeping the temperature “high enough you could grow
orchids in there” (according to one of his own staffers) in the Oval Office,
while asking Americans not to turn their thermostats above 72 degrees, and
generally bumbling around like a well-spoken fool.

It looks to me like he’s a small-time Chicago political thug totally lost on
the National stage and cow-towing to those in his Party who’ve been in
Washington longer. People were worried about Palin not knowing what she was
doing, but at least McCain knew Congress and generally how to control them.
We put the guy even LESS qualified in charge. Not smart.

Should anyone (Republican or Democrat) be impressed with the current
Administration’s progress so far?

For those who are worried about GWB’s performance – that’s in the past. It
can’t be changed. The only reason anyone keeps bringing it up now is to
distract us from the current bad behavior and choices of the PRESENT
Administration. Let’s live in the present, since we obviously have an
economic crisis going on. Let the historians worry about the history.
