[CLUE-Tech] Analysis of var/log/messages data

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone would like to help me out. I'm asking for all
you system adminstrators to send me your var/log/messsages on an average
day so that I can do some analysis of it. My intent is not to find fault
with you, I"m just trying to get an idea of the var/log/messages and
answer a couple of questions which might help you in reducing your
workload:

How much of your workload does /var/log/messages "track" your work in
admining Linux? 80%? 70%? Varies?

Has anyone done an analysis of /var/log/messages of a Linux admin?

I suspect that an average day of your work might show nothing since
Linux runs like the Engergizer bunny, on and on and on. The idea is
that Linux's /var/log/messages tracks what happens and I'd like to see
what a "power user" does with their machine.

I'm also interested in what you all have to say. Since I'm not a "power
user," I don't do much admining of my machine as someone else might.

I look forward to your comments.

Kevin
