But their might be tricks that one can do with the GUI that aren't well
known or understood either.

For example: Is there a way to get a GUI file manager to switch to root
mode without having to log out as user and login as root?  What about
the recursive switch in a GUI? Can you use the KDE GUI file manager to
change permissions and ownership recursively?
