Thanks. At least now I know I'm not missing something simple about that. Still not working, though.

I noticed that when I tell Sylpheed that the SMTP server for outgoing mail is "localhost", it still tries to connect to "smpt.localhost", and then tells me it encountered an error in trying to send mail, and leaves the outgoing message in the queue. Note, it's trying to connect to **smpt.localhost**, not smtp.localhost.

So I added both "smtp.localhost" and "smpt.localhost" as additional names for 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts. I can telnet to "smtp.localhost 25" and "smpt.localhost 25" just fine, and Exim answers. But I still get the same error from Sylpheed.

Any ideas, anyone?

Syplheed is a terrific mail client. I just wish my Japanese were good enough to read all the documentation...
