[CLUE-Tech] lilo without linear

Removed both the linear and the append from my lilo.
the rest of it was as listed.
BIOS changed to show only boot drive ( the 850 meg)

Result was the same as previously reported 
boot stops with error code of 'LI'.

How do I mod lilo when I cant boot??
If I load with the install disk and typr in 
' boot root=/dev/hda1 ' at the boot prompt then
the system will boot normally.
