Yes, my cable modem has slowed as more people have signed on. It has
slowed from about 8mb to about 2mb at the worst times of day. Still faster
than the 1.544mb of a T1, so.... I don't really mind. Reliability is a
REAL issue, usually they kill a router once a month or
so. Morons. Anyway, for performance, my signal was way too hot coming in,
and it hurt my performance, and reliability. Do you occasionally lose RF
frame sync (lights start blingking orange instead of being solid green) if
so, here is the $1.29 solution: Go to Radio Shack, and buy an RF
attenuator. There is one for less than 5 bucks, and it is designed for
cable TV. When I put it on my system, everything got better, right
away. I had been fighting lost RF sync for months. The techs had been out
twice a month, and I was on my third cable modem, but they never did figure
it out.
