I seem to recall some problems between GPM and X, but it's
been a while.

Slack can still do a very minimal install. I think the default is
all software on the CD, but you can limit it by picking the
appropriate disk sets. Since I only have one machine with
very limited space, I usually don't spend the time trimming
out all the unnecessary stuff - though I get rid of the X sets
and a few others if I'm not going to use it as a workstation.

I'm working with OpenBSD right now. I'm hating the OpenBSD version
of fdisk with a fiery passion, but that's just a small obstacle...
