It could be done, but it would be quite a tedious process to generate
the system on a different machine.  I did my first gentoo install on a
K6/II 300 with 64M ram - slow but it worked.  It took about 24 hours
for the initial system, and about 24 hours for each piece like KDE,
GNOME, etc.
