[CLUE-Tech] Stump the stiffs III: Wrecked MBRs

The Question: I had Linux dual-booting fine, but then I [re-]installed
Windows {9x|XP} and now I don't get the {LILO|GRUB} boot-screens
anymore. In fact, I have to use the emergency disk to get into Linux at
all!
The Problem: Windows destroyed (overwrote) the MBR. (without asking)
(those bastards)
The Solution: Restore the {LILO|GRUB} functionality.
The Process: This is the Stump the Stiffs part. You tell me. Your
article must cover both LILO and GRUB, but can be two processes.

As usual, there is a prize for the best reply. 'Best', in this case,
means that your suggestion works, is standards-based, and as simple as
possible. Your article should be understandable to a typical
technician.

This time I will give away space on my server! Without further ado...
The Prize: One-year free 512MB personal/small-business account on
Mailman.TheGeek.NU: SSH, SCP, FTP, IMAP, WWW, etc. Todd's probably
going to kill me, but what the Heck...
