That's quite possible. I don't know if it's because of the lack of specs,
but I know they have mentioned that some video cards aren't supported
in the 4.x branch due to age or lack of interest.

According to the XFree Website, though, the S3 Trio64 is supported in
accellerated mode -- at least in 4.2.0. Maybe it's worth giving it
another shot.
