I ran some extensive tests of the FastTrak card about 2 years ago, and
eventually ended up going with the in-kernel software RAID.  I had
purchased the "hot swap" kit, which includes two removable drive trays, but
the system would hang when one of the drives was removed.  Plus, at the
time, you couldn't query the card to see if one of your drives had died
(which you can do with software RAID).

If the drive fails and you don't know about it, you're in for a suprise
when down the line the second drive fails and your machine is down...

We've got a number of machines running with RAID-1 in our managed hosting
facility (running Linux, of course), and they've been rock solid.
