I've done it several times. the secret is:

0. reasonable bandwidth
1. Go to suse.com and find a reasonably fast local mirror to you.

e.g. mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse is one of the mirrors:

2. find the IP address of the site you're using
(mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse would use 140.221.9.6 )
3. add the base of the SuSE installation to the folder list (/pub/suse
would be: /pub/suse/i386/8.2 )

When it starts the download, go away for awhile. :) come back, answer
questions and go away for even longer.

I ended up buying a copy as $75 for the pro edition was cheap vs. the
time waiting to get the software the hard way. The fact it came with
two copies of the distro (5 CD's and 2 DVDs) and a pretty good newbie
reference was iceing.

I moved from RH 8 to RH 9 to SuSE 8.2 about a year ago and haven't been
happier.
