I have also found GRUB to be far more useful as a way to boot systems
which are currently suffering from boot problem. I have a grub floppy
sitting around that I slap into the defunct system. I can mount
various filesystems, and find files (with TAB completion) all in a
jiffy.
I am a little disappointed that I have to muck with the menu each time
I install a new kernel on debian, but that is a very minor gripe (and
certainly not grub's fault).
