Hello Linux Gurus...
Long time reader, first time mailer :-)

I have a question perhaps you guys might have some ideas. I work in an
environment that connects our office to almost all of our clients over a
wan. The systems we are connected to on the client side are mostly HP-UX and
AIX with a few DG machines in the mix. Currently, our administration over
these machines is rather hodge podge. We must must telent to the machine
through a proxy and perform all tasks that way. There is a great deal of
redundant administrative work (read logs, check file systems, see
processes... etc) that takes a great deal of time because of the way we have
this setup. Here is what I want to do:

Have a linux server at our office run an extranet to our client machines. I
want to create a web interface for any task we redundantly perform on the
client machines. Here is the caviot.... We do not own these machines and
there are far too many to coordinate a client wide standard install of any
additional software. So I must use the tools already available. I hate to
say it but not even ssh is available on all machines. As far as I know,
telnet is the only absolute standard way of connecting to these machines we
have. (Perhaps you have some suggestions of things I can check for). Our wan
is very secure, which is the only reason I feel comfortable with telnet. I
would even use rsh if it was available on all machines.

Assuming telnet is my only option... what tools are there availible to me
for building a web interface to these machines? I can create perl scripts
and use cgi, but I am hoping there might be something available more
specifically designed for my situation.

Any information you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
