www.puschitz.com is very good if your distro is RedHat.

It has been quite some time since I attempted to install Oracle on
Linux and
remember it being quite a chore. I do not remember there being a
"client
only" install option, but perhaps I need to give it another try. I
really
only need the files necessary for DBD::Oracle to work. I am going to be

connecting to other oracle servers on my network with my perl scripts.

I remember a thread of CLUE messages about Oracle on Linux maybe a
month ago
or so. I was wondering if anyone had documented the entire install
process.
I made an install guide a while back but it is a bit dated now.

Can't help you with the 8i libraries, but I have to ask what reason
you'd
have for wanting to intall DBD::Oracle without installing the
requisite
Oracle pieces. You shouldn't need to install the whole database server
package. A basic client install should provide you with the necessary
SQLnet libraries for building client code. Is that what you
(functionally)
want to do?
