Well, it depends upon what versions of which you have. Some time ago, I
had 8.0.5 running on RH5.1, and it wasn't any big deal to get it up and
running. Later combinations (e.g. 8.1.5 on 7.2) required some tweaking of
Oracle's makefiles, and installation of the libc5 compatibility libraries.
I think there were patches available from Oracle which later removed that
as an issue, but it's been a while since I went down that road. There
where some instructions written by a guy named Jim (Jack?) Smiley on how
to do all this stuff, if necessary. You should be able to find them using
google.

I admit my memory could be in error, but I'm quite certain there is an
option for that. I never used it though, as every Unix install I did was a
server.

I always found Oracle's docs to be very complete, except for the above
noted libc5 issue, which Smiley covered in enough detail to get it done.
