[CLUE-Tech] considering this PC deal

A friend of mine who wants a new computer is considering this deal:

In contrast, I'm encouraging him to try Linux and have offered to help 
him assemble a computer based on a Mandrake certified gigabyte board.
Any thoughts from the group.  I want to give him your feedback.  So far 
his experience is using AOL on an older somewhat limited computer.
(Very limited graphics capability, Win95 on small HD)
