[CLUE-Tech] Problems with sites saying they cannot read cookies under Mozilla 1.3.1

In browsing various sites, I find that I am getting a "must enable 
cookies" error message that effectively stops me from using the site.

Two examples of the sites that I get this message on are

    www.macromedia.com
    www.netlibrary.com

My browser is Mozilla 1.3.1 in which I have cookies set to enable all 
cookies, and for a lifetime of seven days, and I have Javascript enabled 
with permission to read and write cookies. I've also had the same 
problem with Konquerer set to identify itself as "Win 98 using IE 5.5".

What's going on -- why am I getting this error message and what can I do 
(short of using Windows and IE) to overcome it?
