[CLUE-Tech] Kernel config: Intel PIIXn ?

Hi, all--
I am compiling a 2.4.22 kernel for my laptop, and I just noticed the
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PIIX option (referred to as "Intel PIIXn chipsets
support" in the xconfig GUI). I do have an Intel PIIX4 IDE controller,
but the help messages says "If unsure, say N."
This is my first experience with 2.4.22, and if this option existed
before I was unaware, so presumably I always had the default value in
the past. The reason I am concerned about this is that this is a second
attempt. On my first try, when I booted with the new kernel, my ReiserFS
partitions (i.e. /usr, /home, /var ... basically everything except /)
failed to mount, even though I had enabled ReiserFS support. I doubt
this option is really the cause of the failure, but I'm just looking
carefully at everything related to IDE and filesystems this time.
So anyway, my question is: how do I know whether to enable
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PIIX or not? The docs don't give a clear explanation of
what it does.
TIA for any tips!
