I've used scripts like this, but pointed the clients to a local server (no
internet access).

It worked great - until someone changed the time on the server one day, and
all of a sudden every workstation was wrong as well.  A well-aimed shot at
the foot.  If you trust the server you point to, that's great.

The nice thing about ntp is that it won't make drastic changes like that.
You can set it up on a local basis in lieu of internet access, and you can
set up several time servers.  This is nice for groups of machines without
internet access, but not as useful for a single or just a couple of
machines.
