FWIW - CMYK support is not included in GIMP, other than the 'separate' plugin.
Here's what the author told me via email about it:
"I've been meaning to update the website for some time now - but I
held off because of the possible inclusion of colour management abilites
in GIMP-2.2 (which will now have to wait until 2.3/4), which would have
made a redesign worthwhile."
