Well, I have been using GNUS with xemacs for all my mail needs for
years. I tried some of the fancier email clients, but GNUS just seems
to fit the bill. And if not you can always modify the heck out of it.
Also, as much as people think emacs is the editor from hell, it can
actually be quite easy to use. For one thing there is no distinction
between "command" mode and "edit" mode (ala, vi). Plus, with the
menus and such, I think a newbie could do quite well.
That said, I which the extension language was something other than
lisp. I mean lisp is a cool language (as is scheme, etc.), but lisp
can be quite daunting to try and figure out (really it is an exercise
in thinking "inside out" if you ask me).
