Looks like your shift key is erratic too ;-)

Sounds like you're running gpm so you have to hook X into the gpm 
repeater (X and gpm can't both use the mouse device).  Google should 
give you the details but I'm using 'Option "Device" "/dev/gpmdata"' in 
the X mouse config.
