[clue-tech] bad block

I created a large table (74 million rows) with Postgresql
7.4.  I attempted to create an index on this table and
also attempted to count the rows, and both times received
this error message:
could not read block 503854 of relation
"zip_code_distance": Input/output error
I was thinking I would use fsck to investigate, but it
warns me about operating on a mounted filesystem, and I
read the manpage on umount, but it wasn't clear how to
proceed.
