Not true at all.  I have both.  Llama book is a good intro.  The  
camel book is nice, but much, much more thourough, and thus not as  
useful as a quick intro.  (The camel book is funny, sometimes, oddly).

(Although I must say the thought of Perl as a first programming  
language makes me shudder -- I love Perl, but in many ways it's a  
baroque monstrosity).
