[clue-tech] Using iPod w/gtkpod

I'm fairly unclear who this is not working, even after spending several hours
reading out-of-date information.

Who's using gtkpod on Linux to write songs to their iPods? I'm using an iPod
shuffle which gtkpod v.88 supports. I'm using version 0.99.2.

This doesn't seem like rocket surgery to me. I confirmed that the device was
recognized (see /var/log/messages output below). Then, from FC4 [2.6.14
kernel], I mount the iPod as follows. [Apparently, iPods are SCSI devices
recognized as USB mass storage].

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/ipod

Then I can navigate the ipod filesystem and see all files. When I fire up
gtkpod, it gives me a warning and then an error:

Seems like a warning [perhaps the shuffle doesn't have extended info since
this file is not on my iPod].
Could not open "iTunesDB.ext" for reading extended info.
Extended info will not be used.

Error:
iPod Database Import Failed: 'iTunesStats file
	('/mnt/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesStats'): entry length
	smaller than expected (18<18).'

So, I check this file and it's not empty:
	/mnt/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesStats 4272

It doesn't seem like a filesystem permission issue - I'm testing everything as
root. There doesn't seem to be a user forum for gtkpod on sf.net.

I also tried TLDP.org for an iPod how to with no luck. Googling has also
proved many dead-ends.

I appreciate any pointers and/or references to up-to-date docs.

Jeff
