That's the key right there:  I'm using RHEL/CentOS.  Courier RPMs did 
not exist for yum, so I had to download and build everything from 
source.  Getting through the configuration files (pre-build) alone was a 
nightmare, partly because Courier assumes that RPMs exist for all 
RH-based systems and goes out of its way specifically to prevent you 
from building manually on RH systems.  Post build, manual configuration 
and integration was also a challenge (especially for a multi-server, 
SQL-based solution), but once I got everything in place, it became a 
gem.  I found that it is very easy to maintain, once in place.
