Memtest86 comes on the boot CD's of several systems including Fedora 
Core, Mepis, and Knoppix, if hard drive or other problems are preventing 
the machine from booting up from the local disk.

You might also consider powering the system OFF, removing the cover, and 
wiggling the memory chips and peripheral cards.  That might fix an 
intermittent connection.
