Pardon me for continuing the drift into OT land, but...

I worked for the past 5 years in "revenue assurance" for telecoms
providers big and small and all over the world.  My job was to help
make sure that the customers paid for what they got and got what they
paid for.  I assure you that our analysis was 1) designed to find both
types of errors 2) consistently found scales of millions of dollars in
free services customers were getting and a scale of thousands of
dollars that they were being overbilled.

Data corruption happens frequently and both sides are a problem -
customers notice the overbilling and call fairly quickly.  They aren't
so quick to call when they get call waiting and HBO for free ;)
