It should be automatic by now.  Linux video sucks, frankly.

Every other OS out there can do this out of the box now, just by
installing the card and MAYBE a driver.  In Linux we still fart around
getting it working.

Desktop Linux is falling behind, again... not that there were ever
very many signs of hope of it ever being useful for anyone not willing
to screw with it constantly.

Desktop Linux overall is still a playtoy for geeks.  A fine playtoy,
but still a playtoy.
