Yes, I'm positive it's set correct.  After I close thunderbird and 
reopen it, my messages appear as unread and new like they should be.

Yeah, the IMAP support for it was crap - since it was on 24/7, 
Thunderbird and my blackberry were constantly fighting for mailbox 
"ownership" at any given time, even worse than it's doing right now. 
POP3 is a little better, but atleast twice a day I have Thunderbird just 
give up and stop getting messages entirely until I close and reopen it.
