I think you will. I just built my first computer (So pretty!) and
after installing and updating the Windows stuff, I went in and
installed the newest Ubuntu right then, so I wouldn't have to worry
about partition stuff in the future. It's working fine, but the
monitor I'm using on the kitchen table (where I put it together) has a
very restricted range of resolutions it's willing to play with, and so
currently I'm stuck at 800 x 640 or somesuch. I tried to go in and
fix it, but instead screwed everything else up - luckily step one of
the instructions I was following involved backing up my xorg.conf or
somesuch.
So I went in with Knoppix and replaced the files, which means it's now
at a happy 800x640 again. (Interesting note: I almost couldn't
install Ubuntu because the install wizard, at that size, puts the
'next' button below the visible area of the screen. I almost gave up
but then discovered that I could move the top and bottom menu/data
bars to the left and right, which allowed me enough room to slide up
the wizard and get half of the 'next' button visible.) Knoppix is
like a shiny circular god to me. :)
So, once I've got this thing hooked up to the pernament monitor, I
think I'll go in and try that out. Thanks.
