[clue-tech] Printing from glabels in Kubuntu

Guys,

I am the Secretary of a Masonic group of about 50 members. I recently
entered the group's mailing addresses and some other stuff into an MySQL
database on my Kubuntu box. From MySQL, I can create a comma-separated
variables file which can be read by glabels to create mailing labels.
There the fun begins.

I am using glabels version 2.1.2 on Kubuntu, with KDE 3.5.2. glabels
produces usable labels, but with some strange quirks. If I attempt to
print directly from the program, I get a garbled page with what appear
to be random blank characters, mixed with a few "7", "(", ")", ":" and
"." characters.

glabels can export/print to a pdf file. When I do so, I see the same
garbled pattern with KGhostView. On the other hand, I can read the
correct data with xpdf, 3.01-7, and KPDF, 4.3.5.2-0. However, when I
print from KPDF, I get the same garbled output. Of course, xpdf itself
has no print option.

I can see _and print_ everything correctly with Adobe Reader, version
8.0 for Windows. Adobe Reader, version 7.0 for Linux, reads the file
OK, but prints the same garbage.

I have a Canon Pixma-MP600 printer directly attached to the Linux box
and an Epson Stylus Color RX620 attached through a Samba network and my
Windows XP box. Both give the same garbled printout, but I may still
have a CUPS problem, which I have been unable to resolve.

Where should I turn next?

Thanks for your help.
