Dan,

Ok, now I'm really stumped. It appears what you suggested works fine. So why can't "yum
update" use the repositories in these directories

[root at hosting ~]# ll /etc/yum.repos.d/
total 16
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2365 Jul 12 16:32 CentOS-Base.repo
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 622 Apr 8 13:22 CentOS-Media.repo

& download updates? I can send you the .repo files directly (vice clue-tech) if you need
them.

Do I need to manually set a repository such as
http://centos-distro.cavecreek.net/centos/5.0/updates/i386/RPMS/
for the system to get its updates?

Again, thanks much for lending a hand with this issue.

Mark

Summary : A minimal version of the VIM editor.
Description :
VIM (VIsual editor iMproved) is an updated and improved version of the
vi editor. Vi was the first real screen-based editor for UNIX, and is
still very popular. VIM improves on vi by adding new features:
multiple windows, multi-level undo, block highlighting and more. The
vim-minimal package includes a minimal version of VIM, which is
installed into /bin/vi for use when only the root partition is
present. NOTE: The online help is only available when the vim-common
package is installed.
