I would check out [1]. I have used a related PC card chipset in the past and 
it worked pretty well. The softmac version of the driver is not included in 
the stock kernel, but some distros may package the softmac version if you 
need it.

CentOS is probably not a good choice due to the poor support for wireless in 
older kernels. I use Debian and find it easy to keep up to date. You might 
try Ubuntu or Debian.
