Just finished putting up debian testing on my r41. Yes, Dave, you were
right: the power supply I ordered came in the Monday after
Installfest!
A few comments and questions:
1. As usual, the Debian net install process is simple, quick, and
flawless. Of course you wind up with Gnome, but a quick apt-get xfce4
fixes that, although Gnome does have its uses. I don't think I'll
bother with KDE on this box (only 256M).
2. Thus far there is no sound. I've done a bit of Googling and search
on the Debian forum, but no luck thus far. Does anyone have similar
equipment or suggestions? All the usual modules are loaded, and the
appropriate bits are unmuted per alsamixer. The built-in card is (per
/proc/asound/cards)
0 [I82801DBICH4 ]: ICH4 - Intel 82801DB-ICH4
Intel 82801DB-ICH4 with AD1981B at 0xd0100c00, irq 11
3. According to lspci, I have the following wireless
02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212
802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
Initial googling suggests that madwifi supports this. Does anyone have
a similar card and/or suggestions. Since I don'[t have a working
wireless setup at homel, I'll have to try any recommendations, then
head to a hotspot.
4. For printing I need to setup my desktop system and the laptop
appropriately. I haven't done the requisite RTFM yet, but maybe
someone has a quick howto. presume I can do this with the appropriate
CUPS parameters.
Happy weekend.
