I've never heard of this being a problem.

I was going to switch to Qwest a while back -- until they suddenly
discovered that they could not in fact offer me the speed they claimed
to be able to -- but they did send out a modem, which was connectable
via Ethernet or USB. I had planned to set it up in front of a little
router, but you could just plug it in to a Linux box via crossover cable
to the NIC. Since Ethernet is Ethernet, it'll work fine. IIRC the modem
handled all of the goofy authentication (PPPoA) that they required.

Your Comcast service is only 300 Kb/s? That doesn't sound right --
Comcast out here is supposed to be on the order of 5 or 6 Mb/s. Comcast
should be significantly faster than DSL ...
